What is the Bowen Technique?
The Bowen Technique is a gentle form of soft tissue manipulation that stimulates the body’s innate capacity to heal itself.
The Bowen Technique is unique in the field of bodywork. It is not massage, acupressure, physiotherapy or chiropractic. It works primarily through the nervous system on structural and energetic levels. Healing occurs through the response of the body’s autonomic nervous system to the Bowen moves, at whatever level is needed; physical, mental, emotional, chemical or energetic.
People often notice that it corrects more than the initial problem presented, and are amazed that a treatment which feels so gentle can be so effective. The most common reaction is a deep sense of overall relaxation and lessening of muscular tension and pain, resulting from an improved flow of internal energy.
The Bowen Technique is appropriate for everyone from newborns to the very elderly and frail. Highly trained athletes and pregnant women benefit equally, each according to need.
Also known as Bowen Therapy, Bowtech and Bowenwork, it was developed by the late Tom Bowen in Geelong, Australia.
